PLAN AHEAD AS MOVING IS STRESSFUL!

• Plan ahead!  We do NOT want your deposit!
• We do not want your stuff. Be sure to remove all your personal property from the apartment.
• Plan ahead for trash removal. The city as well as our private dumpsters only accept household trash. No furniture. Most towns have a spring clean up day in May. Call your town for details.
• Leave all keys, a forwarding address for your deposit and a list of maintenance/repair issues on the kitchen countertop.
• Clean the apartment (but only AFTER all your personal property is out of the apartment. It will make it much easier).
• Do not attempt to make repairs yourself. Spend your time cleaning.
• Below is a helpful checklist. The tasks are in chronological order.

Cleaning Checklist

___ de-cobweb corners of walls/ceilings. Broom, dusting wand (5 minutes)

___ wash walls, trim, mopboards, window sills. Cloth rags (no paper towels!), hot water and bleach OR Fabuloso or Pine Sol (45 – 120 minutes)

___ Stove – place newspaper or paper towel (to prevent leaks) at the oven’s door hinge. Following the product’s instructions, spray oven cleaner inside the oven. Shut door. Wait the amount of time per the directions. Move on to next item (15 minutes)

___ clean kitchen cabinets inside and out.  Cloth rags (no paper towels!), hot water and bleach OR Fabuloso or Pine Sol (60-120 minutes)

___ Stove – if the stove is ready wipe out the foaming oven cleaner with newspaper or paper towels. Continue wiping out cleaner and grease until what’s left is manageable. Now using hot water and rags finishing wiping out the oven and stove top. Wash stove top, front, drip pans. Remove drip pans and clean underneath if needed. Easy-Off, cloth rags, paper towels, newspapers, Fabuloso or Pine Sol (30 – 60 minutes)

___ Clean the toilet bowl, the seat, under the seat and sides.  Clean the sink. Comet, toilet brush, rags, scrubby brush (15 – 30 minutes)

___ Shower/tub – do not use abrasives like Comet or Scotch Pads!  Use CLR, Lysol bath cleaner or other cleaner. (30 – 120 minutes)

___ clean medicine cabinet and vanity. Cloth rags, Fabuloso, Pine Sol (15 minutes)

___ glass surfaces – clean mirror(s) and windows.  Do not clean the outside of the windows (for safety reasons). Windex, Glass Plus, paper towels, microfiber clothes (15 –  30 minutes)

___ Floors – sweep and/or vacuum all surfaces. Shampoo carpets if necessary (rentals available at Aubuchon’s, Hannaford’s). (60 – 180 minutes)

___ Floors – mop any hard surfaces on your way out and you’re done!  Bleach OR Fabuloso or Pine Sol, hot water, mop. (15 – 30 minutes)

___ DONE!

Security Deposit will be mailed out within 30 days to the designated person on the lease and the address provided. Contact the post office to have your mail forwarded to your new address. They have a card there for you to fill out.

Call to have your cable and internet service disconnected. If you are renting equipment from them, return it in person. Call Versant Power and cancel your account if you are paying for electricity.
